Courgette - Summer Gold

OH. All ancestors of courgettes originated in the Americas, particularly Mesoamerica dating back some 7,000 years. But the courgette is more of a “modern” vegetable being bred in Italy in the 1800’s. After years of growing our favourite Cocozelle, we finally had produced enough seed last season to try another courgette. And Summer Gold does not disappoint. An American heirloom according to one source, this yellow courgette is prolific and delicious. A long fruit tapered at the top with deep yellow, smooth skin, firm flesh and a delicious creamy flavour. An added bonus is their yellow fruits stand out against their green foliage making it easier to spot them and hopefully less likely to have unwanted marrows about.  

Sow in Spring once a month through to early Summer for continuous supply. Sow in trays in a glasshouse and prick out to 4cm diagonal spacing when true leaves appear. Transplant into fertile soil at 50cm diagonal spacing in direct sun.
