OP The most popular culinary basil well known for making the best pesto around! A classic, large leaf, aromatic basil whose flavour epitomizes summer! We use this basil in all our summer salads, goes especially nice with our heritage tomatoes both in eating and well known as the best companion plant for tomatoes in the garden. We interplant enough to have some for fresh eating and keep those plants pinched back at the top to encourage more leaf growth, and others we allow to flower and attract pollinators and set seed. Annual, height to 80cm, frost tender.
Requires heat (maintain soil temperature 18° C to germinate. Sow in trays in glasshouse in September, prick out to 2cm spacing when true leaves appear and transplant into garden at 25cm diagonal spacing when true leaves well established and there is a good root system. Sow seed heavily as it is prone to poor germination.
