Now after much anticipation, we are happy to announce Seed Potatoes and Multiplying Onion Seeds are in stock on the website! I want to apologise in advance, as again, limited quantities available. We are so sorry for those of you who will miss out. This is a common problem we have been having with garlic, multiplying onions and seed potatoes as the demand is so high on these crops, but we cannot dedicate all our time and garden space to them or we would not have all the other lovely seeds for sale. We hope you understand.

We firstly have been humbled by the outpouring of support since Cyclone Gabrielle. We want to extend gratitude out to all those who have placed seed orders even when we were unable to dispatch them and to those in a position to donate to help replace our badly damaged water system. In total we have raised just over $3500 from 59 generous donors to date, thank you so much to all those who donated! We have also had a lot of the repair work done and can confirm that the repairs to our water system have come to just over $6500. We also have a little more work on our water system to be done to get us back to where we were pre cyclone. So, if you had considered donating and have yet to do so, we are still accepting donations and now we have a clearer idea of what we need to raise. Every little bit helps and we are very grateful for anything you can give, as we know times are hard for many.

At 2 months since Gabrielle hit, we are still working in catch up mode in some areas and although SH2 has been opened to residents and essential services the postal system has not resumed as normal. We are receiving some post sporadically and we still need to drive our post to town. For this reason, we are only sending orders out once a week. Despite all of this, we are so glad to have our water system functioning and to be able to water our tunnel houses and newly planted crops with a hose again! We want to shout out to our star employee Kiersten-Anna who for 6 weeks watered everything by hand with our two watering cans using rainwater we were able to harvest off our roofs! Not mention how amazing a long hot shower can be when your muscles have not had that sort of relaxation in so long. Running water is such a gift, we are truly grateful to have it back in plenitude.

Introducing our Autumn Intern, Maddie Stonehouse.

Maddie arrived back in February just before the cyclone, and she had to shoot home to Gisborne the weekend before the storm arrived. We thought she might get stuck at home for a day or two not knowing the storm would still leave SH2 blocked to the north. Maddie showed her dedication to the cause and drove the long way round to get back to her internship when the road became open to residents.

We would like to help those in need. We have been aware for some time that the times are changing. People are hurting financially from the cost-of-living crisis, living through the Covid experience and now the cyclone disaster. People need to deepen their connection with nature and access high quality seeds now more than ever, so that more people can take up gardening and provide some of their own produce while releasing their reliance on over-priced supermarket vegetables. 

We have decided to drop our seed prices as of March 2023. We want to be part of a solution that highlights the fact that we are all connected and rely on each other on this earth.

We have decreased the price per packet from $4.00 down to $3.00.

We are still taking donations for our damaged water system, so, if you are not hurting financially, please hit the Donate Button and top up your order to what it would have cost prior to our price decrease, or if you choose, give more. We leave it up to you. If you are hurting and still can’t afford our seeds at $3.00/packet, please email us, we want seeds to be available to all. How can you help if you don’t have extra funds? Please spread the word, share our social media posts, tell all your friends, we have NZ grown seeds and we are selling them at an affordable price.

Despite all the destruction, we feel prosperous and are grateful for all that we have. We would love to sell more seeds for less, spread the love around and be able to afford to employ another employee and really crank out the seed.
