A heritage elephant variety from the North, not a true garlic, actually it is more closely related to leeks. Great for roasting whole!
This is a selection of "motherbulbs" a term used to describe when a plant produces a very large single clove bulb. This happens from time to time and we usually plant these ourselves as they produce a very healthy regular bulb the following season.
Sow in May-August. Plant cloves 15-20cm diagonal spacing pointy tip up in aerated, fertile, well drained soil that gets plenty of sunlight. Make sure soil is moist and then apply thick mulch directly after. Cut flower heads when emerging for larger bulb size, or keep for seed bulbils. Harvest Dec-Jan. when leaves start to die back. Store with roots and tops on to cure.
